clé introduces Zellige, a new collection of tile, hand made in Morocco. Curated by Deborah Osburn, the collection of traditional zellige tiles are made from terracotta and hand painted glazes in 21 colors. Zellige tiles originated in the 10th century and the art of their creation has been handed down for generations of master crafts people. The tiles come in 2″ x 2″ and 4″ x 4″ squares; 2″ x 6″ rectangles; and a 3″ x 3″ hex. The tiles can be installed indoors or out, on walls and floors. Zelliges are noted for their natural mineral glazes in luminescent colors and irregular shade variations. The undulating surface of the tile contains imperfections that are the distinguishing characteristics of the tile.

Zelliges are available exclusively on clé. The tiles on clé are as distinct as the artists who create them. It is Osburn’s goal to provide a forum for discovery and conversation about what she loves most, tiles created by impassioned artists creating remarkable surfaces.
