New Ravenna’s Tansu Features Large-Scale Stone Parquet Design
New Ravenna has introduced Tansu, a large scale stone parquet mosaic suitable for floors in residential or commercial spaces. Tansu is created from the ancient stone called Muyu Jade, or wooden fish stone. Formed 500 million years ago from marine deposits during the Paleozoic era, the stone—according to legend—has revitalizing health properties.
The waterjet mosaic has a honed finish which replicates the traditional carpentry used for wooden Japanese Tansu chests. The modern woven pattern of the design was inspired by intricate Japanese Ikebana baskets.
Sara Baldwin, founder and creative director of New Ravenna says of Tansu, “Parquetry has always fascinated me from my first visit to Versailles, where the concept originated in the 17th century. As a mosaic artist I often experiment with the same geometric principles in stone and glass. The beautiful natural variegated colors of this exotic stone inspired me to look to the habitat and culture of Asia to introduce a pattern that honors the legacy of this rare material.”
Tansu is part of the Studio Line of mosaics from New Ravenna and is recommended for floor installations. Tansu is available at New Ravenna showrooms throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Russia, and Dubai. Please visit www.newravenna.com, or call (757) 442-3379 for more information.
