Walker Zanger Debuts Exclusive New Tile Collections
Walker Zanger debuted four new tile collections at the recently held Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS) that were inspired by elements such as fabric, nature and sci-fi to create textural and artful innovations.
Kaza Collection
Blending interior design with contemporary architecture is the Kaza collection. Striking an impeccable balance of artistry and technology, Kaza incorporates tactile 3-D elements for bold accent walls, with a sensitive balance of style and innovation for the modern home. It should be noted that the Kaza collection received a 2016 Best of KBIS award!
“The Kaza collection is the modern solution to designing a bold statement wall, which homeowners are using to replace dull wallpapers and worn, painted walls,” said Walker Zanger Vice President of Design and Marketing Jared Becker. “Kaza incorporates interchangeable textures, patterns and colors to create a variety of looks for designers and homeowners.”
Kaza’s designs bring a unique element to the collection, such as “Lantern’s” ribbed-yet-soft texture, drawing inspiration from George Nelson’s iconic 1947 lantern-lamps. “Saturn” imbues a 1960s-mod feel with its soft-cream surface, and “Vortex” uses elongated hexagons to create a sci-fi feeling of being pulled into a tractor beam.
To create asymmetric architectural patterns, “Edgy” forms a recurring hexagonal base with alternating convex and concave patterns. “Seed” has more of an organic basis, drawing inspiration from botanical gardens to create a fluid, rippling design.
Knit Collection
The Knit collection mirrors the flexibility and texture of luxury textiles to create noteworthy and beautiful designs.
Each of the design fields – Quilt, Twill and Corduroy – expertly mimic their namesake fabric, recreating the look of quilted, woven and knitted material. The matte finish of the tile accentuates the detailed texture, but with the durability of porcelain for floor and wall applications. The tile can be closely stacked like shingles, set in a herringbone weave, or even laid out in random geometric patterns like a crocheted afghan.
This premiere porcelain collection is available in a variety of neutral colors including cotton, felt and linen.
Sketchbook
“Mid-century modern design brings to mind artists such as Alexander Calder with the focus on sleek, linear spaces,” said Walker Zanger Vice President of Design and Marketing Jared Becker. “Our new Sketchbook collection takes bold colors and strong geographic patterns, and updates them by incorporating inspiration from nature and the old world.”
Carefully hand-painted, the bold black lines in the new collection reflect the work of the artisans who create them. Each individual tile is a work of art, as evidenced by the slight variations that are clear in the stroke and thickness of the lines. No two tiles are exactly alike, giving homeowners a personalized design that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
The inspiration behind each design field puts a new twist on traditional mid-century modern style. The “Ripple” pattern reflects the fluidity and organic look of a pebble in a pool of water, and a rosette of bright yellow tufts is exemplified in “Dandelion.” Featuring a modern color palette of grays, blues, blacks and whites, the collection makes a strong statement in interior spaces.
Studio Moderne
In the spirit of sequels, Walker Zanger revisits the popular Studio Moderne collection to create an extension of the existing designs in collaboration with interior designer Michael Berman.
“We were excited to produce the next installment of the Studio Moderne collection with Michael Berman,” said Walker Zanger Vice President of Design and Marketing Jared Becker. “The diverse styles of the new suite allow designers to create new focal points in the home, using the tile as architectural decoration.”
“This sequel to Studio Moderne is very modern, architecturally strong, and decidedly contemporary,” said Berman. “Not only is this collection beautiful to look at, but from a designer’s standpoint, they are appropriate, usable and boast wonderful longevity. That is why I re-partnered with Walker Zanger—it is a visionary, trend-setting brand.”
This extension of Studio Moderne draws inspiration from 1970’s glamour, Art Deco and Neo-Egyptian architecture. The minimalist concentric curves of “Highland” echo the architecture at the Hollywood bowl, and the interlocking, elongated hexagon patterns of “Montclair” are inspired by mid-century Neo-Egyptian styling. Walker Zanger also reimagined one of Studio Moderne’s most popular original decorative fields through “Rambler” so it could be used as a backsplash.
